Botanical Gardens DC, Pizza & Farmers Markets

The weekend finally arrived and all I had planned was to find some great produce at the farmers market.  The Botanical Gardens DC (United States Botanic Garden) and stopping for pizza were an unexpected twist.  I really wasn’t expecting to blog about the day, but it was too cool to not share.

We knew we wanted to check out the H Street Corridor Freshfarm Market  (Whole 30 = SO MANY veggies and fruits), and just take Kona for a long walk early before it got hot.  Let’s be honest though, it is hot all the time now.  Iced Coffee at The Wydown was a first stop. (Which has outdoor seating for us to bring Kona). Then on to the farmers market on 13th and H, where we had some amazing pastries called Burek at Yufka Bakery.

H Street is a really fun neighborhood, that we have not been able to spend too much time in yet, but it is filled with lots of awesome restaurants to try.  And since our local pet store went out of business, the ones in this area will be our new go to’s as H street is close to NoMa neighborhood.  When we moved here we heard the Ben’s Chili Bowl is a DC staple and a must try.  We were glad to see that there is one close by, and are discussing trying it. Though I don’t prefer chili… when in Rome I guess?

We spent the afternoon walking though Union Station (because I needed to use my free shake coupon at Shake Shack before it expired!!), walking around the Capitol, eating in Capitol Hill at a new to us pizza place called We the Pizza.  So basically we spent the day wandering with no plan.  And we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Our last stop of the wandering aimlessly tour was walking around the United States Botanical Gardens.  We expected the gardens to be a pretty quick trip, which it was not long.  But it ended up being really pretty, and if we had a kid, we would have been there for hours.  In the center of the buildings is a courtyard that has a fun area for kids.

Dustin will kill me for that last picture, but I can’t help it.  I got arty with the camera and he is so handsome.

Check out our short video we made at the United States Botanic Gardens on our YouTube channel.

Anyway, have a good week, and make good choices!
