22 Hours in Memphis

This past weekend I went with my friend Brittany to go see “The Sound of Music” in Memphis.  It really was a whirlwind trip. We arrived Saturday afternoon, to have just enough time to get ready and head to the Orpheum Theatre for the show.  It was really cold and overcast the majority of the trip.  Leave it to the south to be in the 80’s and 50’s in the same week.  I had such a crazy week my packing was scattered at best, so this weekend was an overpacked with all the wrong things and a chilly one to say the least.

I will say Brittany and I can pack in quite a bit into very little time when it comes to travel.  The show was really good, and it was like taking a trip down memory lane.  As a child I loved old movies and The Sound of Music was one of the first I ever saw.  The Orpheum is a beautiful theater and in my distraction of being FREEZING did not take enough photos.  However, I did send a photo of the program to Dustin where it said Hamilton is coming to Memphis…I was so excited I about screamed out loud.

To say we were hungry after the show was an understatement.  A quick change and a quick walk down the street we ended up at Bardog Tavern.  While others were there for nightlife we went down and found the food.   Seared Ahi-Tuna Wontons for an appetizer and Veggie Burrito hit the spot.

I was ready to crash after that, since it was after midnight and my bedtime normally 9:30.  Walking back to the room, it felt like we had downtown Memphis all to ourselves.  The reality was that everyone was in a bar somewhere or on Beale Street.  If it wasn’t so cold I would have taken more advantage for some pictures.

After going to bed late we slept in, and went straight to brunch.   I will say the brunch experience was amazing and I highly recommend Automatic Slims.  We arrived at about 9:15 am to an empty restaurant, and we started questioning our choice.  However, 15 minutes after being seated, the place started to get packed out.  By the time we left the wait was long.  The place was eclectic and very interesting.  I really enjoyed my crab cakes benedict and coffee.  I almost got some waffles since they looked amazing.

A “quick” trip to IKEA and shopping after food, we headed back to Little Rock.  I was glad for the short girls trip.  I hope to next time visit the Civil Rights Museum and Graceland.  I love history so to visit more of this town would be so much fun.
